The Islamic Women’s Welfare Association

Dear sisters,

welcomAssalaamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuhu
One outstanding character from our Ummuhat Al-Mu’mineen (the Mothers of Believers) was their dedication and relentless work to educate and help the people around them. We have learned how Aishah bint Abu Bakr (ra) was a prominent scholar; educating and guiding the Muslims, particularly the Muslim women. She was very much involved in social reforms and took custody of children many of whom were orphans. We also know of Nasibah bint Ka'b al-Maziniyyah, a woman warrior of Islam who left the sanctity

of her home, took part in the battle of Uhud and died as a martyr. She fought and placed

the interest of the ummah ahead of her own life. Khadijah bint Khuwayled‘s support was crucial to the success of our beloved Prophet’s (saw) duty as a Messenger of Allah (swt). All this was for the sake of Allah (swt) by fulfilling their obligations towards the community around them. Their work was a reflection of their Iman.

We read these inspirational stories and often compare ourselves with these women. Can we ever be like them?
In the year 2000, IWWA was formed to gather individual efforts among some

Muslim women to collectively be involved and help in the welfare of our Muslim women. Over the years, IWWA has organised educational classes and activities for women, teenagers and children. Alhamdulillah, IWWA has been instrumental in many of these people’s lives. It is important to carry on doing what we‘re doing and do a lot more to help the society we live in. We need to provide a positive and healthy environment for our family to live in and to ensure a better future for our children. These goals can only be achieved with everyone’s help and contribution. You and I can make a difference.

It is a duty to fulfill our social obligation. Doing good and caring for others is an act of charity as reflected in the hadith below:

Abu Hurairah, radiyallahu 'anhu, reported that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said :
"On every person's joints or small bones (i.e. fingers and toes), there is sadaqah (charity) every day the sun rises. Doing justice between two people is sadaqah; assisting a man to mount his animal, or lifting up his belongings onto it is sadaqah; a good word is sadaqah; every step you take towards prayer is sadaqah; and removing harmful things from pathways is sadaqah."
[Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

IWWA is in need of your support. It is with great pleasure that IWWA’s shura committee invites you to participate in managing this organisation. Please allocate some of your time and resources for IWWA to serve the community that we live in. Our dedication is for the sake of Allah’s (swt) pleasure. If you have ANY concerns about IWWA’s policies and practices please share them with us. You have the right to voice your concerns and IWWA’s shura committee is obliged to listen.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh
